The clearance of inward and outward cargos at ports has nearly come to a logjam due to debugging of Web Based One Customs (WeBOC) system being continued for last 48 hours; it was learnt. The WeBoC system has been running on debugging mode for last two days, creating difficulties for taxpayers to clear consignments, said chairman supreme council All Pakistan Customs Agents Association (APCAA).

He said that importers and clearing agents are unable to pay duty and taxes and clear their consignments, due to said reason. Arshad said that the customs department instead of carrying out its system maintenance exercise during working days should have done the same on Saturdays and Sundays to facilitate the stakeholders and urged the authority concerned to compensate the financial loss - demurrages and detention incurred during last two days.

When contacted, Wajid Ali, Director, Directorate Reforms and Automation dispelled the impression that the system was running at snail-pace due to system maintenance and constraints, saying that WeBOC system was working smoothly.
